Call for Papers – Engage with Scripture & Theology Panels 2025!

The Scripture & Theology Forum is excited to announce two upcoming opportunities for scholars to contribute to our 2025 panels. As in the previous years, both panels will be part of the annual meeting of the European Academy of Religion in Vienna (July 8-12). We encourage both junior and senior biblical scholars and theologians from across the globe to start considering their submissions. In particular, we want to encourage contributions from the European South and East, and strongly invite Catholic and Orthodox scholars to participate.

1. Scripture & Theology Panel 2025: Exploring Methodological Interactions
This panel will explore how Biblical Studies and Systematic Theology inform and shape one another. We are looking for papers that address how current or historical research methods can deepen the interaction between these two fields, either through theoretical analysis or by demonstrating specific examples. This is a unique opportunity to reflect on interdisciplinary methodologies that enrich both theology and biblical studies.

2. Author Meets Critique Panel: Frances Young’s ‘Doctrine and Scripture in Early Christianity’
The second panel invites critical responses to Frances Young’s influential work on the relationship between doctrine and Scripture in early Christianity. We seek papers that engage with Young’s methodological approach and its implications for contemporary theology, focusing especially on methodological reflections. Frances Young will participate in the panel.

Full CfP will be published once they are accepted by EAR.

Deadline for submissions for the open call will be April 4.

NB: DEADLINE FOR THE AMC IS ALREADY FEBRUARY 7.
